Kat Robichaud (Twitter Instant Save)

The first nine contestants to be saved were not surprising because they clearly gave the best performances last night. For the second week in a row Kat was able to sneak into the next round with a last second save. Fortunately, she did not steal the spot of someone much more talented than her this time around. We weren't surprised to see Jonny, Kat, and Josh in the bottom three and were not surprised that Kat won the Twitter Save because she has the sort of unmistakable personality that would attract people to vote for her on Twitter. The bigger surprise than Kat advancing was definitely that Josh actually had more Twitter votes than Jonny. It appears that the veteran vote didn't help Jonny get past the fact that he gave a poor and forgettable performance. At the end of the day we still believe that Kat is the weakest link in the competition and has to really give an incredible performance next week in order to move up the rankings. I have to add that the whole idea for this save did not seem like a great idea and could easily have screwed someone over. Hopefully this was a one time thing and doesn't become a regular occurrence.

  1. I disagree with your thoughts on the twitter save. It added excitement to the final moments of the broadcast. While some may say that people had already voted, we don't know the original order, which very well could have been the order of the twitter save.

Kat has shown a penchant for taking risks - jumping into the crowd last night, for example - which should be applauded when compared with Jonny and Josh's mediocre performances. Thus, it shouldn't be surprising that the twitter crowd voted in favor of her. Next week brings increased competition, and she'll have to improve her vocal performance to stay alive, but for now Kat deserves a shot in the top 10.

  2. I don't believe the order people were announced is the order of how many votes they got. Last week they said the first one called had the highest votes, this past week they did not state that. As long as they don't say that, they can call and will call people in whatever order they so choose.

  3. I thought the twitter save was an extremely awkward, uncomfortable 5 minutes. Those 3 contestants looked as though they were facing down a firing squad, and Carson questioning the coaches re who they thought would be saved just made the waiting and final elimination worse. For a show that is professional in so many ways, it was a poorly conceived ending. Also, since we on the west coast were watching the show prerecorded, we could not participate in the voting and millions of possible votes were left out. Sort of ironic since the show is filmed out here.

  4. Unfortunately the Twitter Instant Save will remain a thing for the next three and that does seem like a mistake. Your point about the west coast being ignored is completely true and is definitely not fair to both the viewers and contestants. However, we're just going to have to live with it and hopefully the best contestant is able to be saved more often than not.
